Who we are
ShopDeals.io is a membership deals site for Canada and the US, run from Ontario, Canada. This policy covers shopdeals.io and the emails we send. If you have a question about your data, write to us.
What we collect
- When you join the founding list: your email address, the home city and currency you choose, the categories and brands you pick, the page you joined from, and a record of the consent you gave and when.
- When a business sends a deal: the business’s name, website and description; the contact person’s name, email address and phone number; the deal’s details; and its photo.
- When you write to us: your name, your email address and your message.
- To stop abuse of our forms: a one-way code made from your network address and the date, so we can count repeated attempts without keeping the address. These codes are deleted after a day.
- On your device only: the deals you save, the brands and searches you follow, and your city stay in your browser. They aren’t sent to us.
- Your approximate location: until you choose a city, the site uses your device’s time zone and asks our host which city your connection is in, so it can show offers for your country and city. We don’t store that location; the city it picks stays in your browser, and you can change it any time.
- Analytics: on shopdeals.io we use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are used. It records the pages you view, the offers you click through to, your approximate location and your device, and sets cookies to tell visits apart. Its advertising features are off. Visitors in Canada are asked first, and Analytics only loads if they accept; elsewhere it runs unless you decline. You can change your choice any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of every page, and declining removes its cookies.
How we use it
- To confirm your spot on the founding list, and to email you when memberships open.
- To review the deals businesses send. Once we approve a deal, its business name, details and photo appear on the site. The contact person’s details never do.
- To answer your messages.
- To keep the site working and secure, and to understand which pages are useful.
We don’t sell personal information, and we don’t share it for advertising.
We email the founding list only after you confirm your address. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and mail apps can unsubscribe you in one click. When you unsubscribe, we keep your address on a do-not-email list so you don’t hear from us again. Businesses that send a deal get emails about that deal.
Who helps us run the site
These companies process information for us, only to provide their service:
- Vercel hosts the site, runs its forms and stores deal photos.
- Neon hosts our database.
- Resend sends our emails.
- Google provides Google Analytics.
Their servers are in the United States, so your information may be stored and processed outside Canada, where the authorities there may be able to access it under local law.
Links to brands
Some links to brands may go through affiliate networks such as Impact, CJ, Rakuten Advertising and Awin, which credit us when a purchase follows. If you click one, the network or the brand can set its own cookie, and its privacy policy covers that.
How long we keep it
- Founding list: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. After you unsubscribe we keep only what we need for the do-not-email list.
- Deals from businesses: while they’re listed, and for up to two years after they end, for our records.
- Messages to us: for up to two years.
- Network address codes: one day.
- Analytics: Google Analytics keeps visit data for up to 14 months.
Your choices and rights
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, correct it, or delete it, and you can withdraw your consent to our emails at any time. Quebec residents have these rights under Quebec’s privacy law, and California residents have the rights to know, delete and correct, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of their information. We don’t sell or share it. To make a request, contact us. We may ask you to confirm your identity, and we reply within 30 days. You can also complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, or in Quebec to the Commission d’accès à l’information.
Children
ShopDeals isn’t meant for anyone under 16, and we don’t knowingly collect their information.
Security
The site uses HTTPS throughout. Only our admins can see what businesses and visitors send us, and they sign in with single-use links. Sign-in links and sessions are stored only as one-way codes.
Changes
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top. If a change matters to the founding list, we’ll tell you by email first.
